Visiting Lacordaire

Thank you for your interest in visiting Lacordaire Academy. Located in the heart of Upper Montclair, our small, selective school sits on a historic campus at the intersection of Park Street and Lorraine Avenue.

Visits are scheduled during the school day so you can see our students and teachers in action. Their engagement in and outside the classroom reflects the culture of curiosity, respect, and integrity that defines a Lacordaire education. Students are encouraged to explore big questions, think critically, and integrate moral and spiritual reflection with academic inquiry.

We encourage you to explore recent issues of our school magazine and our social media channels to learn more about our students, faculty, and alumni. The paths our graduates pursue, marked by independence, compassion, and purpose, speak volumes about the lasting impact of a Lacordaire education.

Honoring our heritage as a French/English school, we leave you with à bientôt—see you soon!

Frequently Asked Questions

List of 6 frequently asked questions.

  • Can I bring additional family members on a school tour?

Yes. Families often find it helpful to bring along grandparents or other close relatives. We simply ask that you let us know in advance who will be attending your tour.
  • How long will our visit be?

Tours with the admissions office typically last about one hour. Your visit will begin in James Hall, where the admissions offices are located, and from there we will guide you through the campus, grounds, and the specific grade(s) of interest to your family.
  • Where should I check in when I arrive on campus?

Please check in at the main office in Lacordaire Hall, which is the brick building that faces Park Street. Once you get your visitor badge, you will be directed to James Hall, where an admissions representative will be waiting to greet you.
  • Should I bring my child along on the school tour?

That decision is entirely up to your family. Most parents prefer to tour on their own first, while others choose to bring their child. Either option is welcome. If you decide to apply, your child will have the opportunity to visit campus for a classroom immersion or shadow day as part of the admissions process.
  • Our family is currently located abroad or out of state. Can we meet for a virtual tour?

Absolutely. Lacordaire is home to many families who have relocated to the Montclair area from overseas or from other parts of the U.S., and we would be delighted to meet with you virtually. Please complete an inquiry form, mentioning that you are currently located outside of the area, and a member of our admissions team will reach out to schedule a virtual meeting.
  • My child is fluent in French. Does Lacordaire offer differentiated learning for French speakers?

Yes. Our native-speaking French teachers ensure that every child feels both challenged and supported. For fluent French speakers, we offer opportunities to expand and enrich their learning, both inside and outside the classroom. We also take time to understand your child’s current level, your family’s language background, and how French is used at home, so we can provide a French education that is appropriate for your child.
