Greetings from Lacordaire!

Lacordaire Academy’s Lower School offers a well-balanced curriculum that both engages and challenges students through inquiry, innovation, and project-based learning. Our youngest learners explore the world around them with hands-on, interactive activities that spark curiosity and creativity.

Equally important, our program emphasizes the development of character, which nurtures citizenship, global awareness, faith, and a lifelong love of learning. Teachers work collaboratively to ensure a clear progression of skills across grade levels, while personalizing instruction to meet the needs of each child.

The foundation of the curriculum is built on reading, language arts, social studies, math, science, and religion, with instruction tailored to individual learning styles.

Developmentally structured reading and math programs allow children to progress at their own pace. STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) is integrated at every grade level, with technology woven throughout the classroom experience.

Students also benefit from a wide variety of enrichment opportunities, including art, French language, music, physical education, computer science, and creative dramatics. Field trips, guest speakers, and hands-on projects bring learning to life, while strong communication between parents and teachers supports every child’s growth. Our goal is simple: to nurture joyful, confident learners who are prepared to succeed in school and beyond.

We look forward to meeting you!

  • Pre-Kindergarten

    Our Pre-K program follows a child-centered, Montessori-influenced approach.

Classrooms are organized into four centers—Practical Life, Mathematics, Language Arts, and Sensorial—that encourage children to explore independently and build self-confidence. Age-appropriate materials placed on child-level shelves promote curiosity and choice in learning. Thematic units connect these centers to real-world experiences, from studying neighborhood trees to visiting the local post office or supermarket. Every day is an opportunity to learn, explore, and grow.
  • Kindergarten

Kindergarten at Lacordaire combines hands-on exploration with a stimulating academic routine. Students build creativity and reasoning skills through collaboration and project work, while developing confidence through frequent on-stage productions and public speaking. Signature experiences include the Thanksgiving Feast, The Three Trees play, the Mission Bazaar, the Multicultural Luncheon, Flat Stanley Adventures, and the Kindergarten Talent Show. These traditions help young learners take ownership of their growth and celebrate their achievements.
  • First Grade

First grade builds independence and confidence through project-based learning and critical thinking. A whole-language approach integrates reading, writing, speaking, and listening across subjects, while students practice the writing process through journals, narratives, essays, and reports. Math and science are taught through hands-on experimentation, from weather hourglasses to clay volcanoes and igloos built of sugar cubes. Social studies highlights colonial history, map skills, and multicultural traditions, while religion emphasizes Christian values and Bible stories.
  • Second Grade

Second grade fosters independence and reflection, encouraging students to make connections across disciplines and apply their skills in creative ways. The interdisciplinary approach deepens problem-solving and innovation while nurturing confidence and risk-taking. Baptized Catholic students are also invited to prepare for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion through our Sacramental Program.
  • Third Grade

By third grade, students begin to think abstractly and work more independently. The curriculum challenges them to make inferences, broaden their perspective, and strengthen connections to history and the wider world. To prepare for Middle School, students switch classrooms for science and social studies, gaining experience with multiple teachers and subject expertise.
  • Fourth Grade

Fourth grade serves as a bridge to Middle School, focusing on organizational skills, time management, and personal responsibility. Students strengthen foundational skills in reading, math, and writing while deepening their study of science, U.S. history, and geography. Cross-curricular projects and STEAM initiatives encourage inquiry and creativity, while religion helps students develop a personal relationship with God. Frequent performances and presentations build public speaking skills and self-confidence, ensuring students are ready for the challenges ahead.
