On Friday, January 16, Lacordaire Academy hosted its school-wide Poetry Out Loud competition, part of a national program in which students memorize and perform exceptional historical and contemporary poems.
Following December’s grade-level contests, Adrian Villegas (8th grade), Lyric Watts and Mishka Mellachervu (9th grade), Sophia Dajani, Yara Dollari, and Natalie Sims (10th grade), Angie Castro (11th grade), and Samantha Romero (12th grade) advanced to the school-wide round.
All of the recitations were outstanding, showcasing the students’ skill, creativity, and passion for poetry. Ultimately, Yara Dollari took first place and will represent Lacordaire at the Essex County regional competition at the South Orange Performing Arts Center on February 10. Mishka Mellachervu earned second place, and Natalie Sims finished third.
Lacordaire congratulates all participants—Adrian, Lyric, Mishka, Sophia, Yara, Natalie, Angie, and Samantha—for their impressive performances and wishes Yara the best of luck as she moves on to the regional round.
